Description
BBILLMO reports whether households used money orders from somewhere other than a bank to pay bills during the last 12 months. In 2015 and 2017, respondents were asked if this happened "in a typical month."
In 2015 and 2017, BBILLMO is part of a series of variables about methods of bill payment during the past 12 months. Related variables include BBILLCHECK, BBILLDC, BBILLCC, BBILLPC, BBILLELEC, BBILLCASH, BBILLMOB, and BBILLOTH. Though respondents who answered that the household had not paid bills during past 12 months were asked no further questions about bill payment, these households are coded as "Did not pay bills" in all variables in this series.
This variable is part of the Unbanked/Underbanked Supplement.
Comparability
In 2019, only households that reported purchasing money orders somewhere other than a bank were asked BBILLMO.
In 2019, nonresponses to Unbanked/Underbanked Supplement questions were allocated based on households with similar demographics. The data quality flag for BBILLMO is QBBILLMO.
