Description
BINCOTH reports whether or not anyone in the household received income in a form other than check, money order, account deposit, prepaid card, or cash in a typical month over the past 12 months.
BINCOTH is part of a series of variables about ways income was received during the past 12 months. Related variables include BINCACCT, BINCCASH, BINCCHECK, and BINCCARD. Though respondents who answered that the household had no income during past 12 months were asked no further questions about income types, these households are coded as "Did not receive income" in all variables in this series.
This variable is part of the Unbanked/Underbanked Supplement.
Comparability
For 2015, a survey administration issue (see BINCCARD) resulted in a higher proportion of 540 prepaid card using households without bank accounts responding "Yes" to this question, as compared to others in the survey. 24% of the 540 prepaid card using households without bank accounts responded "Yes" as compared to 10% among other households without accounts, and 2% among households with accounts.
Universe
