This is a 3-digit numeric variable.

Description

VLHTORG3 indicates the number of hours per week that the respondent dedicated to volunteering for organization #3, in the weeks that they engaged in volunteering. Researchers may also be interested in the type of organization in which the respondent volunteered (VLTORG3) and the number of weeks volunteered in that organization (VLWTORG3). The same information is available for up to seven volunteer organizations.

This variable is part of the Volunteer Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is generally comparable across samples. However, responses were not top coded prior to 2010, but from 2011 forward the number of hours per week were top coded at 30 or more hours.

  • Persons age 15+ who had volunteered in the past year.
