The Civic Engagement Supplement of the Current Population Survey asks about respondents' involvement in their communities and communication with their family and friends. These questions are asked of respondents 18 years of age and older in all available samples except 2008, where questions were asked of respondents age 15 and older.

This supplement is available for November 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013. Supplement questions sought to measure the level of civic engagement of individuals in the United States. Civic engagement is a broad concept that can be defined by one's level of or involvement in: empowerment and political action; groups and networks; trust and solidarity; information and communication; and social cohesion and inclusion.
