Description

VLFUND indicates whether fundraising was part of the respondent's volunteer opportunities with the main organization, which is determined by the greatest number of hours volunteered in the past year. Researchers could use VLWTORG1 through VLWTORG7 (weeks in the last year volunteered with at a given organization) and VLHTORG1 through VLHTORG7 (hours per week spent volunteering at a given organization) to calculate an annual total and identify the main organization. The annual hours spent volunteering by the main organization is also reported in VLHMAINORG.

Comparability

The wording for this question was different for 2002, which asked whether volunteer activities included canvasing, campaigning, or fund raising. From 2003 forward, the question instead asked if they fundraised or sold items to raise money.
