TTOBAMTIME is a 4-digit numeric variable reporting time in minutes.
9996 = Refused
9997 = Don't Know
9998 = No Response
9999 = N.I.U. (Not in Universe).
Description
For respondents who currently use one or more non-cigarette tobacco or nicotine products every day or some days (TCIGAR, TPIPE, TSMKLS, TWPIPE, TNICPOUCH, THEATTOB, or ECIGFREQ) reports in minutes how soon after waking a respondent first used the non-cigarette tobacco or nicotine product or products referenced by TTOBTYPAMTIME. This variable is created from two components: the first is a number variable and the second is a unit variable. Respondents reported how long, in minutes or hours, they wait after waking to use the reference tobacco or nicotine product. For respondents who do not give a valid time response, the third question asks whether or not the person uses the reference tobacco or nicotine product within 30 minutes of waking. These responses are captured by TAMTOBBFQUIT.
This variable is part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.
Comparability
In the 2010 and 2011 samples, current cigarette smokers (TFREQ) were excluded from this non-cigarette tobacco variable group. Beginning in 2014, current cigarette smoking did not exclude respondents from this variable. The set of qualifying non-cigarette tobacco and nicotine products also changed across samples.
