Description

For all respondents who were interviewed for the Tobacco Use supplement (TBRESP), TCIGAR reports the frequency of a respondent's cigar, cigarillo or little filtered cigar use, and whether they have ever used cigars regularly.

This variable is part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.

Comparability

The options given for frequency of use changed in 1998. In the 1995 and 1996 samples, respondents were simply asked if they currently used cigars regularly, while in 1998 and later samples, they could respond that they used cigars every day, some days, or not at all.

In 1996 and later samples, TCIGAR is composed of two questions. In 1992 and 1993, the variable is created from four questions.
