Language of interview.

Beginning in 2006, new categories were added (Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Khmer, and other Asian or Asian unspecified).

This variable is part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.

Comparability

Non-institutional civilians age 15 and above constitute the universe for this supplement, except for 2007, 2010, and 2011, where the universe age is 18 and older, not 15. Otherwise, this variable is comparable across all available years.

Universe

  • 1992-2006 (Selected Months): Non-institutional civilians age 15 and above.
  • Jan 2007: Non-institutional civilians age 18 and above.
  • 2010+: Persons interviewed for the Tobacco Use Supplement (TBRESP).
  • May 2011: Non-institutional civilians age 18 and above;MIS 5-8 only.
