Description

TPLAN30 indicates whether or not a smoker plans to try to quit smoking in the next 30 days.

This variable is a part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across all available years.

Universe

  • 1992-2002 (non-ASEC): Smokers age 15 or older who plan to quit smoking or don't know if they plan to quit smoking in the next six months.
  • November 2003, January 2007: Self-respondent smokers age 15 or older who plan to quit smoking in the next six months.
  • May 2010, January 2015+: Persons interviewed for the Tobacco Use Supplement (TBRESP) who are daily or someday smokers and are seriously considering quitting smoking in the next six months.
  • May 2011: Persons interviewed for the Tobacco Use Supplement (TBRESP) who are daily or someday smokers and are seriously considering quitting smoking in the next six months; MIS 5-8 only.
