Description

For smokers who have not attempted to quit smoking in the past 12 months, TEVERSTOP reports whether or not they have ever stopped smoking for one or more days in serious attempt to quit.

This variable is a part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.

Comparability

In May 2011, the question about having ever attempted to quit smoking was not asked. Thus, TEVERSTOP only includes responses pertaining to the last 12 months in this sample.

Universe

  • 2003: Self-respondent smokers age 15 or older who has not stopped smoking for 1 or more days in the last 12 months.
  • Jan 2007: Self-respondents who are daily smokers and has not stopped smoking for 1 or more days in the last 12 months.
  • 2010+: Persons interviewed for the Tobacco Use Supplement (TBRESP) who are daily smokers and has not stopped smoking for 1 or more days in the last 12 months.
  • May 2011: Persons interviewed for the Tobacco Use Supplement (TBRESP) who are daily smokers and has not stopped smoking for 1 or more days in the last 12 months; MIS 5-8 only.
