TCARTON indicates whether the everyday or non-daily smoker usually buys cigarettes in cartons, by packs, both, or neither.

This variable is a part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across all available years.

Universe

  • 2003: Self-respondent smokers age 15 and older.
  • 2006-2007: Self-respondent smokers age 18 and older.
  • 2010+: Persons interviewed for the Tobacco Use Supplement (TBRESP) who are daily or someday smokers and buy their own cigarettes.
  • May 2011: Persons interviewed for the Tobacco Use Supplement (TBRESP) who are daily or someday smokers and buy their own cigarettes; MIS 5-8 only;
