VGUARDCUR indicates whether respondents are currently members of the reserves or National Guard.
This variable is part of the Veterans Supplement
Comparability
For 2007-2009, VGUARDCUR was asked of all veterans who reported being called to active duty by (VGUARDACT), or that they were ever a member of (VGUARDMEM), the Reserves or National Guard.
In 2010 forward, all veterans who reported being called to active duty by, or that they were ever a member of, the Reserves or National Guard and agreed to answer supplement questions are considered in universe.
Universe
- 2007-2020: Veterans who served after 1990 and stated that they had ever been a member, or that their active duty was the result of a call from, the Reserves or Guard
- 2021-onward: Veterans have ever been a member of the the Reserve or National Guard.
