Description
VGUARDMEM indicates whether respondents are currently, or have ever been, members of the Reserves or National Guard.
This variable is part of the Veterans Supplement
Comparability
For 2007-2009, VGUARDMEM was asked of all veterans who did not report being called to active duty by the Reserves or National Guard (VGUARDACT).
In 2010 forward, all veterans who did not report being called to active duty by the Reserves or National Guard, and agreed to answer supplement questions are considered in universe.
Universe
- 2007-2009: Veterans who served after 1990 and did not state they were called to active duty by the Reserves or National Guard
- 2010-2020: Veterans who served after 1990, responded to supplement questions, and did not state they were called to active duty by the Reserves or National Guard
