Description

For respondents who do not give a valid response to the number of times they stopped smoking in an attempt to quit, TSTOP3 reports whether the respondent thought they had stopped smoking more or less than 3 times in the past 12 months.

This variable is a part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across all available years.

Universe

  • 2003-2007: Self-respondent smokers age 15 and older who did not answer question about the number of times stopped smoking in the past 12 months.
  • 2010+: Persons interviewed for the Tobacco Use Supplement (TBRESP) who are current smokers who did not answer question about the number of times stopped smoking in the past 12 months.
  • May 2011: Persons interviewed for the Tobacco Use Supplement (TBRESP) who are current smokers who did not answer question about the number of times stopped smoking in the past 12 months; MIS 5-8 only.
