Description

TLOZGUM indicates whether a smoker who tried to quit in the past twelve months or a former smoker who quit in the past five years used nicotine lozenges or nicotine gums in the attempt to quit.

This variable is a part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.

Comparability

In earlier samples (2003 February, June, and November), this variable were split into two variables TLOZ and TGUM.

Universe

  • Self-respondent smokers age 18 or older who tried to quit in the last 12 months, or former smokers who stopped smoking within the last 5 years.
  • May 2011: Self-respondent smokers age 18 or older who tried to quit in the last 12 months, or former smokers who stopped smoking within the last 5 years; MIS 5-8 only.
