Description

TAMSMK indicates whether or not an everyday or non-daily smoker has his/her first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking in the morning. This variable is created from three components: the first is a number variable and the second is a unit variable. Respondents reported how long, in minutes or hours, they wait after waking to smoke their first cigarette. For respondents who do not give a valid time response, the third question asks whether or not the person smokes his/her first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking. Smokers who report smoking the first cigarette 30 minutes after they wake are included as "Yes" respondents.

This variable is part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.
