Description

DWIND1990 recodes the variable DWIND the industry of the respondent's lost job into the harmonized 1990 Census Bureau industry classification system. These codes are also comparable to the variable IND1990.

This variable is part of the Displaced Workers Supplement.

Comparability

From 1984-1992, respondents who lost or left a job during the past five years are included in the supplement; from 1994 on, those who lost or left a job during the past three years are included.

Universe

  • 1984-1992: Civilians age 20 or older who lost or left their job in the last five years.
  • 1994+: Civilians age 20 or older who lost or left their job in the last three years because the plant closed down, their shift or position was eliminated, or there was insufficient work.
