Description
DWIND reports the industry of the job the respondent lost or left in the last several years. DWIND includes a code 9990 which is not found in the CPS variable IND. Values of 9990 are considered uncodable or classified.
This variable is part of the Displaced Workers Supplement.
Comparability
The industry coding scheme for the CPS changed over time, and DWIND gives the responses in the coding scheme currently used for the sample year. For an industry variable for lost or left job that is comparable over time, see DWIND1990.
From 1984-1992, respondents who lost or left a job during the past five years are included in the supplement; from 1994 on, those who lost or left a job during the past three years are included.
