Description

CWLENCSU indicates the unit of time that the respondent has worked for the employer where s/he is currently assigned. This variable is for the respondent who is a contract worker (CWCONTRACT) assigned to one customer and who usually works at the customer's worksite (CWCONSITE). Note that CWLENCSN indicates the number associated with the unit.

A related variable, CWLENCCU, indicates the time that the contract worker has been working for the company that contracts out his or her services.

This variable is part of the Contingent Work Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across years.

Universe

  • 1995-1999: Civilians age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, and, in the past week, worked for a company that contracts out the respondent or their services to a single customer, and usually do that work at the customer’s worksite.
  • 2001-2005: Civilians in month-in-sample 1-3 or 5-7 age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, and, in the past week, worked for a company that contracts out the respondent or their services to a single customer, and usually do that work at the customer’s worksite.
  • 2017: Civilians age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, and, in the past week, worked for a company that contracts out the respondent or their services to a single customer, and usually do that work at the customer's worksite.
