Description

CWLENCCU indicates the unit of time that the respondent has worked for the company that contracts out his or her services. This variable is for the respondent who is a contract worker (CWCONTRACT). Note that CWLENCCN indicates the number associated with the unit.

A related variable, CWLENCSU, is a more restrictive version of this variable for those individuals who work at the customer's worksite.

This variable is part of the Contingent Work Supplement.

Comparability

In each sample there are a small number of cases that are classed as "Not in Universe" despite meeting universe requirements. The number of cases in each sample is as follows:

Universe

  • 1995-1999: Civilians age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, and worked for a company that contracts out the respondent or their services in the past week
  • 2001-2005: Civilians in month-in-sample 1-3 or 5-7 age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, and worked for a company that contracts out the respondent or their services in the past week
  • 2017: Civilians age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, and worked for a company that contracts out the respondent or their services in the past week
