Description
BMORDER12M reports whether anyone in the household has gone to a place other than a bank to purchase a money order in the last 12 months. Banks are defined as "banks, savings and loans, credit unions, and brokerage firms."
This variable is part of the Unbanked/Underbanked Supplement.
Comparability
In 2011 and 2013, only those who had reported going to a non-bank location to purchase a money order were asked BMORDER12M. This is not a requirement to be in universe for BMORDER12M in 2015 and on.
In 2019 and 2021, nonresponses to Unbanked/Underbanked Supplement questions were allocated based on households with similar demographics. The data quality flag for BMORDER12M is QBMORDER12M.
Universe
- Jun 2011 and Jun 2013: Households that indicated someone had ever gone to a location other than a bank for a money order, that report having or not having bank accounts, and have a respondent age 15 or older, who has knowledge of household finances.
- Jun 2015, Jun 2017, Jun 2019, and Jun 2021: Households that report having or not having bank accounts, and have a respondent age 15 or older, who has knowledge of household finances.
