Description

For respondents who quit smoking cigarettes within the past 12 months (TSINCEQUIT), TAMSMKBFQUIT reports the amount of time in minutes after waking that the respondent smoked their first cigarette of the day, prior to quitting. This variable is created from two components: the first is a number variable and the second is a unit variable. Respondents reported how long, in minutes or hours, they wait after waking to smoke their first cigarette. For respondents who do not give a valid time response, the third question asks whether or not the person smokes their first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking. These responses are captured by TSMKAMTIMEBFQUIT.

This variable is part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.
