Description

CWTIMUNIT indicates whether the respondent expects to continue in the same job for years, months, weeks, or days. Users may want to combine this variable with CWTIMNUM. See also CWTIMTIL for respondents who did not specify a unit of time.

This variable is part of the Contingent Work Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across years.

Universe

  • 1995-1997: Civilians age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, did not change employers in the past week, and had a temporary job or did not report being able to keep their jobs indefinitely independent of external circumstances and job performance
  • 2001-2005: Civilians in month-in-sample 1-3 or 5-7 age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, did not change employers in the past week, and had a temporary job or did not report being able to keep their jobs indefinitely independent of external circumstances and job performance
  • 2017: Civilians age 16+ who were employed, but not self-employed, did not change employers in the past week, and had a temporary job OR did not report being able to keep their jobs indefinitely independent of external circumstances and job performance.
