Description

BPAYDAY reports whether anyone in the household has ever used payday loan or payday advance services. This variable is part of the series of questions that identifies underbanked households. Related variables includeBPAYDAYOFT, which reports the number of times these services were used in the past 12 months (only available for 2009), and BPAYDAY12M, which reports whether payday services have been used in the past year.

Comparability

In 2009 and 2013, the question asks about payday loans or payday advances; in 2011, the question only asks about payday loans.

Universe

  • Households that report having or not having bank accounts, and have a respondent age 15 or older, who has knowledge of household finances.
