Description

HHTENURE categorizes the household in terms of the household's tenure in the residence. Not only are households identified as renting or owning, renters are differentiated as paying cash rent or not.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across available samples.

Data for the March 2001 basic monthly sample is currently not available for HHTENURE.

In a few select months, there are NIU cases for HHTENURE other than non-interview households in the data. The original data for HHTENURE was not provided in samples after September 2000, but the original data was recovered and made available by Data Ferret, which IPUMS incorporates into the variable HHTENURE.

Please note that non-interview households appear in the case count view on the codes page, but not in the data extracts.
