98: No response
99: NIU
Description
FSRASCH reports the Rasch scale scores assigned to households based on each of their responses to items in the 12-month food security questionnaire. The Rasch model was used to develop cut-off scores for the categorical measure of food insecurity (FSSTATUS).
Note that Rasch scores are not assigned to households with zero reported food insecure conditions or to households that are screened out of the food security section of the supplement.
This variable is part of the Food Security Supplement.
Comparability
This variable is comparable and available in all years since 2000. The current food security questionnaire and screening questions have been implemented consistently since 1998. In 1998 and 1999, the Rasch score is precise to 3 decimal places. From 2000 on the score is precise to 2 decimal places. To make the length of FSRASCH the same across all years so that we can release pre-2000 data to 3-digit precision, for years 2000 and onwards FSRASCH includes a trailing 0. This does not mean that the score is precise to 3 decimal places in these years. For comparisons across 1998/1999 and 2000 +, the 1998 and 1999 values will have to be rounded to obtain 2 decimal point precision.
In 1998, 1999, and 2007, food security data are not available for all rotation groups. The food security status weight FSHWTSCALE should be used when analyzing the food security scales.
