- UnHarmonized Variables
UHRSWORKT is a 3-digit numeric variable.
1994 - 1998 ASEC:
0 = Hours vary, NIU, or no hours
1994-onward basic monthly; 1999-onward ASEC:
0 = No hours
997 = Hours vary
999 = Not in universe (NIU)
Description
UHRSWORKT is the usual number of hours per week the respondent reports being at all jobs, over an unspecified time period.
See the Hours Worked Variables Notes for an overview of the different actual and usual hours worked variables available.
Comparability
ASEC samples from 1994-1998 do not have separate NIU, hours vary and "no hours" codes: for these samples the code 0 could mean either NIU, hours vary, or the respondent reported "no hours". The labels for codes of the harmonized variable UHRSWORKT reflect the coding of the non-ASEC samples 1994-1998 as well as all samples from 1999 on. Researchers should use caution in comparing 1994-1998 ASEC samples to non-ASEC samples of the same period and ASEC and non-ASEC samples from 1999 onward.
Universe
