Description
WSSHFTREAS specifies the primary reason for why the respondent works a schedule other than a regular day shift. The type of schedule worked is detailed in the variable WSOTHSHFT.
This variable is part of the Work Schedules Supplement.
Comparability
Some responses were added or removed over time, but the available responses are comparable across all years.
Starting in 2001, the responses "Better arrangements for care of other family members" and "better child care arrangements" were combined into one response.
In 1985, 6,214 individuals were in-universe for the Work Schedules Supplement but did not answer the supplement questions. These individuals have been coded as "No Response" if they met WSSHFTREAS universe criteria.
This variable is otherwise comparable across available samples.
