Description
WSREGSHFT reports whether or not respondents work a regular daytime shift at their primary job. For those who do not work a regular daytime schedule, shifts are detailed in the variable WSOTHSHFT.
The "primary job" is defined as the job at which the respondent worked the most hours.
This variable is part of the Work Schedules Supplement.
Comparability
Starting in 1997, a regular daytime shift was explicitly defined to include shifts within the hours of 6am-6pm. Also starting in 1997, response categories indicating "Refusal" and "Don't Know" were added.
In 1985, 6,214 individuals were in-universe for the Work Schedules Supplement but did not answer the supplement questions. These individuals have been coded as "No Response" if they met WSREGSHFT universe criteria.
This variable is otherwise comparable across available samples.
