Description

VLASTEMYR indicates the last year the respondent worked at a job or business.

This variable is part of the Veterans Supplement

Comparability

In 1995, the Veterans Supplement respondent universe included veterans and active duty personnel. In other years, only veterans were asked supplement questions. In 2003 and earlier samples, Veterans Supplement respondents were 18 and older; in 2005 and later, respondents to the supplement were 17 and older.

For 1995, VLASTEMPYR was asked of respondents who were unemployed or not in labor force, reported having a service related disability (VDISABLE), and that the disability was the reason for their unemployment, were unable or unwilling to answer, or were asked but did not respond to the question about their disability and unemployment (VDISUNEMCUR).

From 1987 to 1993, and in 1999, respondents had to report their disability was the reason for their unemployment in order to be considered in universe.

In 2001, the universe was expanded to respondents who either stated the disability was the reason for their unemployed, or were unable or unwilling to answer.

For 1997, and 2003 forward, respondents who reported having a service-related disability and also reported their disability is the reason for their unemployment, were unable or unwilling to answer, or were asked but did not respond to that question are in universe.
