Description
VDISYEAR indicates in what year respondents with military service-related disabilities received their current disability rating.
This variable is part of the Veterans Supplement
Comparability
In 1995, the Veterans Supplement respondent universe included veterans and active duty personnel. In other years, only veterans were asked supplement questions.
For 1987, 1995, and 1997, VDISYEAR was asked of all supplement respondents who reported having a service-related disability, were unable or unwilling to answer, or were asked but did not respond to the question about having a service related disability (VDISABLE).
For 1999, only those who responded "Yes" to the service related disability question were in universe for VDISYEAR.
For 2001 and 2003, only respondents who responded "Yes" to the service related disability question, and reported their disability rating (VDISRATE), were considered in universe.
Universe
- 1987, 1997: Veterans who did not state they had no disabilites
- 1991-1993, 1999: Veterans with a service related disabilty
- 1995: Veterans and current armed forces members who did not state they had no disabilities
- 2001-2003: Veterans with a service related disabilty and a known disability rating
