Unicon Corporation made the following notes about this variable:
Tabs indicate that 1994 has all 0 values. Census documentation for these years states that those unemployed and looking for work (mlr=4) are also in the universe but crosstabs indicate that they are not.
These string values in the original data have been recoded as follows:
- => -9 : Missing
Universe
- 1968-1988: Civilian adults in labor force, but not at work last week.
- 1989-1993: Those with a job but temporarily absent or on layoff last week.
