Description

Relationship to household head - 1976-1988

Unicon Corporation made the following notes about this variable:
Child records only have the values of 4 through 6 in years 76-88 and the values 5 through 10 (excluding 6) in years 89-93. The term HEAD becomes REFERENCE PERSON starting in 1989. To map these values back to the old values the Census Bureau suggests the following: if relhd>12 then do; if relhd=13 or relhd=15 or relhd=17 then relhd=10; else if relhd=14 or relhd=16 then relhd=11; else relhd=12; end;
