Unicon Corporation made the following notes about this variable:
In 2002+, the Census dropped the topcoding of age to 80, and perturbed (scrambled) the value of age for certain records with ages 66-80 and less than 12. They did not allow the revised ages to go outside those barriers; that is, no one whose age was 67 ended up with an age of less than 66, no one aged 9 ended up with an age greater than 11.

In these years, the top end is grouped at 80 then 85. Comparison to
counts from earlier years indicate that 80 can be interpreted as '80-84' and 85 can be interpreted as '85+'. Census confirms these interpretations.
