Description

TPLAN6 reports whether a respondent was seriously considering stopping smoking within the next 6 months.

This variable is part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.

Comparability

This variable is comparable for all available years.

Universe

  • 1992-1993 (selected months): People who were advised to stop smoking by a dentist in the past year, or those who were or were not or do not know if they were ever advised to quit smoking by a dentist.
  • 1995-2007 (selected months): Self-respondents age 15+ who are everyday or non-daily smokers.
  • 1996-2001 (selected months): Self-respondents age 15+ who are everyday, non-daily or indeterminate smokers.
  • 2010-2023 (selected months): Self-respondents age 18+ who are everyday or non-daily smokers.
  • May 2011: Self-respondents age 18+ who are everyday or non-daily smokers; MIS 5-8 only.
