Description

TOTHNIC indicates whether a smoker who tried to quit in the past twelve months or a former smoker who quit in the past five years used a replacement nicotine source, such as chewing tobacco, snuff, cigars, or pipes other than the types listed in the questionnaire (gum, inhalers, spray, patches, tablets, or lozenges) in the attempt to quit.

This variable is a part of the Tobacco Use Supplement.

Universe

  • Self-respondent smokers age 15 or older who tried to quit in the last 12 months, or former smokers who stopped smoking within the last 5 years.
