REPORTYR is a 2-digit numeric variable.
Description
REPORTYR indicates the reported year (according to a variable included in the original public use dataset) in which interviews for the ASEC CPS took place. With one notable exception, the values for REPORTYR consistently agree with those for YEAR, the variable indicating the survey year, which were added by IPUMS-CPS and were based on the labels of the public use datasets.
For a minority of cases in the ASEC 1963 dataset, REPORTYR has the value "62" (i.e., 1962). These "1962" cases in the 1963 dataset do not generally constitute whole households; rather, a person or persons within a household has the value "62" while other household members have the value "63." Scrutiny of these cases suggests that the "62" household members are not included by error. The line numbers (see LINENO) for these anomalous cases are compatible with those of other household members, as are their relationship to the household head (RELATE) and their order in the dataset (e.g., with the head listed first, followed by the spouse, children, other relatives, and non-relatives). The IPUMS-CPS staff welcomes clarification from users about these cases anomalously labeled "62" in the 1963 dataset.
