Description
PVISLYR reports whether the respondent took lessons in visual arts during the last 12 months. These art lessons may include drawing, painting, pottery, weaving, graphic, fashion design, and/or photography or film making.
This variable is part of the Public Arts Supplement.
Comparability
This variable is largely comparable across available years.
For 2002 and 2008, respondents were asked a single question about whether they had taken art lessons in the last year that may have included drawing, painting, pottery, weaving, graphic, fashion design, and/or photography or film making.
In 2012, 2013 and 2015, this variable is created by combining responses to two separate questions. First, respondents were asked about whether they had taken lessons in visual arts such as drawing, painting, pottery, weaving, graphic or fashion design. Second, respondents were asked whether they had taken photography or film making lessons in the last year.
Users should also note differences in the universes across time.
