Comparability

The wording of the survey question has changed over time. In 2002, 2008, 2012, 2017, and 2022, the questionnaire asks whether the respondent has visited an art museum or gallery in the last 12 months. In 2013 and 2015, the questionnaire asks whether the respondent has visited an art exhibit, such as paintings, sculpture, pottery, graphic design, or photography.

Supplement universes vary across years. The May 2008, July 2012, July 2017, and July 2022 Public Arts Supplement has substantial differences in structure compared to other months. The May 2008, July 2012, July 2017, and July 2022 surveys are divided into core and module sections. Which respondents and which variables are included in which core and module varies across years.
