Description
NWLOOK2 reports the number of weeks, in intervals, that the respondent spent looking for work in the previous year. Information on weeks spent looking for work during the preceding year is available in single weeks, beginning in 1976, in the variable NWLOOKWK.
Comparability
There is a significant discontinuity in NWLOOKWK2 between the universe for the years prior to 1976 and those from 1976 on. Those on layoff are included in this variable for samples from 1976 and forward, but not in samples prior to 1976.
For 1962 through 1967, five classifications are given: "1 to 4 weeks"; "5 to 10 weeks"; "11 to 14 weeks"; "15 to 26 weeks"; and "over 26 weeks." Beginning in 1968, the categories "27 to 39 weeks" and "40+ weeks" were added.
