Description
MRKTYPNW indicates whether the respondent's current marketplace health insurance policy covers a family, the policyholder and one other person, or the policyholder only. Marketplace health insurance plans are obtained through healthcare.gov or through equivalent state-run online marketplaces.
Health insurance exchanges, or online marketplaces where one can purchase private health insurance, were established in all U.S. states by the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly referred to as the ACA). For those without coverage available through an employer, a family member's coverage, or Medicaid or SCHIP, the ACA provides subsidies on a sliding scale for individuals whose Modified Adjusted Gross Income is between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty line. For individuals whose marketplace coverage is subsidized last, the type of plan is reported in MRKSTYPNW, and plan types for those with unsubsidized coverage in MRKUTYPNW.
