Description
MHMAR1SEPY indicates the year in which the respondent separated from their first spouse.
Comparability
MHMAR1SEPY is limited to ever-married women in all available samples, except for 1980 where ever-married men are included.
In 1980 and 1990, the MHMAR1SEPY variable includes women who have been married only once. These women also have values for "year of last separation" (MHMARLSEPY); for these cases, values for MHMAR1SEPY and MHMARLSEPY are the same. In 1995, women who have been married only once are in-universe only for MHMARLSEPY.

- Jun 1980: Persons 15-75 who have ever been married.
- Jun 1990: Females 15-65 who have ever been married.
- Jun 1995: Females 15-65 who have been married 2+ times whose first marriage ended in divorce.
