- UnHarmonized Variables
This variable is not available for any of the currently selected samples.
MARRQTR reports the quarter of the year (January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December) in which the respondent was first married. All persons under age 14 were presumed to be single and were not questioned about their marital history.
The information on quarter of marriage was transcribed by the CPS interviewer, based on reported information about the month and year of marriage for the individual.
This variable is fully comparable across years.
Comparability with IPUMS-USA
This IPUMS-CPS variable is fully comparable with the MARRQTR variable in IPUMS-USA for the 1960 and 1970 censuses. The 1980 census recognized 15 as the youngest possible age at marriage, versus age 14 in the survey.
- Ever-married persons age 14+.
