Description

For households who reported problems obtaining child care that limited work hours (KIDCPROB), KIDCPROBUNT reports the unit of time in hours, days or weeks that respondent chose to report the amount of lost work time because of trouble finding child care. This variable should be used in conjunction with KIDCPROBTIME. Beginning with the 2026 ASEC, this variable is reported in days only.

Comparability

Beginning with the 2026 ASEC, this variable is reported in days only. KIDCPROBUNT will report only "2==Days" for the 2026 sample. In 2025, this variable is reported in hours, days and weeks.

Universe

  • 2025: Households that had problems finding childcare that limited work hours (KIDCPROB).
