Description
JTOCC1990 recodes the variable JTOCC the occupation code of the job the respondent worked one year ago into the harmonized 1990 Census Bureau occupation classification system. These codes are also comparable to the variable OCC1990.
This variable is part of the Job Tenure Supplement.
Comparability
The universe for JTOCC1990 in 1996 differs considerably from other years. In 1996 respondents who did not change jobs in the last year are in universe. In all other available years only those who changed jobs in the past year are asked JTOCC1990. 1996 also contains 149 respondents who do not have JTOCC1990 responses despite meeting known universe requirements.
This variable is otherwise comparable over all available years.
Universe
- 1996: Civilians age 15 or older who were employed in the reference week and had been at their current job for over a year, or had been in their job less than a year but were working one year ago.
- 2000+: Civilians age 15 or older who were employed in the reference week and were doing a different kind of work one year ago
