FSSUPPWT is a 14-digit numeric variable. In the original data there are four implied decimals. The IPUMS command files automatically make the necessary adjustment, so no further adjustment is needed.

In 1976 and 1977 FSSUPPWT is identical to the basic monthly weight.

Description

FSSUPPWT is the person-level weight specific to the Food Security Supplement. This weight should be used for individual-level analyses.

The food security weight, FSHWTSCALE, should be used when analyzing the food security scales.

Comparability

In December 2021 there are 231 respondents who were reported as living in Food Security Supplement surveyed households yet have a zero FSSUPPWT value. These responses are present in the original data.

This variable is otherwise comparable over all available years.
