Description

EDYRATT indicates whether a person most recently attended regular school (for definition, see EDATT) during the current calendar year or in some previous calendar year.

This variable is part of the Education Supplement

Comparability

Apart from changes in the universe across years, EDYRATT is comparable for all available years other than 1981, and 2001. Response options for 1981 variable differ from other years by providing "1981", "1980", "1979", "1978", "1977", and "1976 or earlier" as response options. For the 2001 variable, the offered options were "2000" and "1999 or before" as response options. All other years offer the current year and the previous year or before as response options (e.g., 2004 response options are "2004" and "2003 or before").

  • Oct 1976-1984, 1986, 1987: Persons age 14-24 who are not high school graduates and who are not attending school OR who are in college but who did not complete high school
  • Oct 1985: Persons age 14-34 who are not high school graduates and who are not attending school OR who are in college but who did not complete high school
  • Oct 1988-1992: Persons age 15-24 who are not high school graduates and who are not attending school OR who are in college but who did not complete high school
  • Oct 1993+: Persons age 15-29 who are not high school graduates and who are not attending school OR who are in college but who did not complete high school
