Description

EDGRDLY identifies which grade the focal person was enrolled in the previous October among those enrolled in regular school at that time. The related variable, EDGRADE, identifies current grade of enrollment for those currently enrolled in regular school.

This variable is part of the Education Supplement

Comparability

EDGRDLY is comparable for the years 1994-2014. From 1988 to 1993, there are no options for "nursery" and "kindergarten". From 1989-1993 there are six codes labeled "college", but there are no options for "graduate school" as in later years.

Universe

  • Oct 1988: People age 14+ enrolled in school the previous year
  • Oct 1989-1993: People age 15+ enrolled in school the previous year
  • Oct 1994+: People age 3+ enrolled in school the previous year
