Description

DWYEARS is a Census Bureau recode for the number of years, including partial years, that the respondent worked at the reference lost or left job.

This variable is part of the Displaced Workers Supplement.

Comparability

Before 2012, all values were possible. In 2012, a topcode at 24 years was introduced. All years 24 and above are coded as 24 in 2012 and 2014. In 2016, the document gives a topcode of 24, but the data show an apparent true topcode of 28.

From 1984-1992, respondents who lost or left a job during the past five years are included in the supplement; from 1994 on, those who lost or left a job during the past three years are included.
