Description

DWSTAT identifies individuals the Census Bureau consider a displaced worker. Who exactly the Census Bureau considers a displaced worker changes several times over the available samples.

From 1984 to 1992, displaced workers were those who had lost or left a job during the past 5 years. From 1994 on, a displaced worker has lost his/her job in the last 3 years due to their company or plant shutting down, their shift or position being eliminated, or having insufficient work. From 1998 on, these respondents are not self-employed, and do not expect to be recalled to their job in the next 6 months.

This variable is part of the Displaced Workers Supplement.
